Where’s Easy Wi-Fi?
October 3rd, 2009 by dave
The Easy Wi-Fi multi network application (white icon) is temporarily unavailable in the Apple App Store. It will be restored on or around October 20th.
So, why is it unavailable? Well, we’re working on a big new release, version 4. Due to the odd behavior of the App Store we can’t have the old version available while we also have a newer version with restricted availability. We’re not quite ready for prime time on the new app so we want to get it out to our partners and friends who will check it out and give us great suggestions. This forces us to halt broad availability and control access via Apple’s “promo codes.”
Sorry for the delay. Meantime you could use another version of Easy Wi-Fi (they’re all extensible to any hotspot provider).
What does version 4 contain? Well, it’s a secret! But we’re quite excited as it adds a revolutionary capability that many of you have asked for. Here’s a graphic from the app to tickle your imagination. Can you guess?

Want to be among the select reviewers of the new app? Send us an email request. We have 10 promo codes available and we’ll allocate them based on the inventiveness of your guess on what’s in version 4 and the sincerity of your plea

Thanks for breaking my “download all free updates” button. Apps that are listed but not available stop itunes from batching with a “no longer available” dialog and force the user to click “download update” for each and every update that IS available.
I just had an app that pulled this same stunt get restored to the App Store. I thought my download button would work and I was happy.
Nope. Now, YOU are the showstopper.
Thanks. Thanks a lot.
Just pull it entirely if you are going to sit there and brag that you’re going to break this function for THREE WEEKS. Have a care for your paying customers’ convenience.

So, EasyWiFi for AT&T will not work without the generic, non-AT&T version installed yet you have disabled the latter for almost a month because you hope to have a new updated version out around then? Sorry, but reputable vendors DON’T disable current versions because something new is coming in the FUTURE.

John et al. at Devicescape. Will Easy Wi Fi app be available Tuesday morning then? Can’t wait. I am guessing that in the new upsade the log in will be automatic so you don’t have to even launch the app? Will Push be involved in any way I wonder?

romad: Sorry you were impacted. It’s not our intention, but that’s the hack that Apple created. You could also have installed the Boingo app to get the functionality, since that’s another app that disables the iPhone from trying to login. Sometimes reputable vendors are forced to do certain things.
jennifer: it’s an App Store bug, although admittedly our scenario triggered it. It’s part of the price we pay for being able to field test our product before pushing it out to everyone. Sorry for your inconvenience.
